The act of making art is magical. The artist weaves a spell which is cast with intent to reach inside the viewer.

Different subjects are chosen intuitively and are combined or overlaid, allowing the unrelated to relate. Much like Venn-diagrams highlighting the common denominators between opposites, positive and negative, male and female, light and dark. All have grey areas where they share similarities or literally fade into each other. Connections are found on mutual ground where the merging of extremes hints at a more harmonious middle path.

The main theme is the contrast between humanity and nature, our relationship to life and our dependency on it. The use of layering takes us to a surreal inner-space where scale and logic are suspended, a place where we can meditate on our role in an interconnected multi-dimensional universe.

Drawing over a painting reminds us the creative process involves death and rebirth. Most of the materials themselves have been reclaimed. The brushwork is done at speed, and has the immediacy of expressionism, revelling in a language of mistakes. The result is a transparency and an invisibility that you find in window reflections, and like a window we are invited to look not just at the surface but to what lies beyond
